Mental and Emotional health is treated with Acupuncture

mental health treatmentMental health problems can be debilitating.  Whether it’s depression, bouts of anxiety, panic attacks, an eating disorder or insomnia feeling like we’re not in control of our feelings can be terrifying.  Understanding the root cause of a mental health condition is critical to treat properly.  Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine have a long history of treating depression, anxiety and panic attacks. Mental health conditions are often described by the type of disorder.  These disorders are broken down into sub-categories.  For example anxiety is further broken down into generalized anxiety, obsessive compulsive, social, or post-traumatic disorders.  Acupuncture can be helpful as a primary or adjunct therapy in helping to manage mental health conditions.  For more on how acupuncture works in the body visit my Acupuncture page.

Adjunct therapies for mental health conditions

In addition to acupuncture I may prescribe herbal medicines, neuro-nutrient therapy , meditation or dietary changes to help you feel better.  My work with clients focuses on the root cause of your mood condition rather than just focusing on the symptoms.   If necessary I can refer you to a therapist, doctor of psychology or a psychiatrist with whom I have close working relationships. If you have taken psychiatric medications in the past and want to try a more natural approach acupuncture might be right for you. I also work with patients who are currently taking anti-depressants, mood stabilizers, and hypnotics to help them feel better than taking medications alone.
